Microsoft Outlook - Change an Existing Account

If you already have a POP-based email account, and have been upgraded to a new server, these instructions are for you.

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2007 from the Start menu or your desktop shortcut.
  2. At the top of the screen, click Tools, and then click Email Accounts.
  3. Select View or Change Existing Accounts and click Next. This will show you a list of all email accounts set up on that computer. (For most users, there will be only one account on this list.)
  4. Select the account you want to change from the list shown, and then click the Change button.
  5. On the following screen, there are two columns of information. On the left, you'll want to make the following changes:
    • User Information: no change
    • User name: your email address with + in place of the @ (so bob@hotgluemedia.com would use bob+hotgluemedia.com)
    • Password: the password we've assigned to your account
    • Remember Password box should be checked
    • Log on Using Secure Authentication should be checked
  6. And in the right column of the same screen:
    • Incoming mail server (POP3): host.hotgluemedia.org
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): host.hotgluemedia.org
  7. Under the Server Information section, click More Settings, and then select the Outgoing Server tab. On this screen, My Outgoing Server Requires Authentication and Use Same Settings as my Incoming Mail Server should be checked.
  8. Now click the Advanced tab, and enter the following information:
    • Outgoing mail (SMTP): 465
    • Check "this server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
    • Incoming mail (POP3): 995
    • Check "this server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
    • If you want to be able to access your email via webmail as well as Outlook, check "Leave a copy of messages on server". Otherwise, uncheck this box.
    • Click "OK" to save your changes.
  9. You're all done! If you have questions or problems, give us a call at 716.803.6646 (484.524.2507 for our Pennsylvania clients)
