Windows Live Mail - Change an Existing Account

If you already have a POP-based email account, and have been upgraded to a new server, these instructions are for you.

  1. Open Windows Live Mail from the Start menu or your desktop shortcut.
  2. At the top of the screen, click Accounts, and then click Properties:

  3. Click the Server tab, and enter the following information:
    • My incoming mail is a POP3 server.
    • Incoming mail (POP3): host.hotgluemedia.org
    • Outgoing mail (SMTP): host.hotgluemedia.org
    • Email username: your email address with + in place of the @ (so bob@hotgluemedia.com would use bob+hotgluemedia.com)
    • Password: the password we've assigned to your account
    • The radio button for "Log on using clear text authentication" should be checked
    • The checkbox for "My server requires authentication" should be checked

  4. Now click the Advanced tab, and enter the following information:
    • Outgoing mail (SMTP): 465
    • Check "this server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
    • Incoming mail (POP3): 995
    • Check "this server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
    • If you want to be able to access your email via webmail as well as Live Mail, check "Leave a copy of messages on server". Otherwise, uncheck this box.
    • Click "OK" to save your changes.
