WordPress Basics: cForms Import and Export

cForms is an excellent and popular WordPress plugin for creating all sorts of forms: contact forms, file uploaders, surveys, etc. If you find yourself moving a form from one WordPress site to another, you don’t need to recreate the form – just use the handy dandy import/export feature.

Log into your admin console and scroll down to the cForms menu on the left sidebar. Click the Form Settings Page and select the form you want to back up. Then click Admin Actions > Backup and Restore Settings > Backup Current Form Settings. (You can view a screenshot of the location of these buttons here.)

This will output a form-settings.txt file. (It’s worth noting that if you have multiple forms, they will all be named form-settings.txt, so you may want to rename them lest you overwrite them. I’ve done that more than a few times.)

To import into the other site, it’s basically the same process: Admin Actions > Backup and Restore Settings > Choose File > Restore from File.

Poof! You’ve moved your form.
